Installing

macOS

Open the .dmg and drag Contextra to Applications. The app is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens normally with no security prompt.

There are two macOS builds, and it’s worth ten seconds to pick the right one. Open the Apple menu → About This Mac: a line reading Chip means Apple Silicon, a line reading Processor means Intel. The Apple Silicon build will not launch on an Intel Mac, and the Intel build does launch on Apple Silicon — under Rosetta, slower, and it keeps updating itself as an Intel app until you replace it by hand.

Windows

Windows will show “Windows protected your PC” because the installer is not yet code-signed. Click More info → Run anyway to continue.

This is a warning about an unrecognized publisher, not about the file being unsafe. If you’d like to confirm the download is intact, compare its SHA-256 against the one on the card above:

On macOS, Contextra updates itself — you’ll be told when a new version is ready. On Windows, the app lets you know and sends you back here.

Before you start

By default Contextra runs on your own AI provider key (Gemini, GPT or Claude), so you pay the provider directly and your usage is never marked up by us — you’ll add that key on first launch. Prefer not to manage one? Managed AI credits are live in your dashboard, arriving in the app through the beta channel first. Either way, you’ll need a Contextra account to activate your licence.
